umm. Seriously. this is a baddie list minus TOY STORY 2 (even though 1 was good, two is way better) My big thing though is comedy, like, I can't take old school to be my favorite movie, because it's not good... Good comedy = The Gold Rush (Charlie Chapman) since it was revolutionary for it's time. other good choices I'd pick are not American films, since they usually lack symbolic emotion. Hero was great House of Flying Daggers was also very good. The Color of Paradise (I think it's called that, it's Indian) Run Lola Run (German) Buono, il brutto, il cattivo., Il (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. Was Italian, great western though) Rashômon and Shichinin no samurai (Both Kurosawa films, who I think is the best director to ever live) I'm a just a film student though, don't know much about good movies. And before you flame, I understand this is favorite movies, I just couldn't take some of your answers seriously, for my standards on why a movie should be a "favorite," but that's just me, and a list of some of my favorites. |

Oh, im adding... "The Last Samurai" to my list. That is in my top 5. The acting is awsome, it has so much emotion in it, and its just really really put together well. | ||

I agree with Rusty (never thought you'd hear that from anyone did you). Kurosawa was a great director. Without him there would be no Star Wars, Spaghetti westerns, and a bunch of other stuff. His style of storytelling and film making influenced most of what came after him. Run Lola Run was also a good movie. If I had to pick some favorites I would have to pick; Memento (can't believe this was unmentioned. Great film) Citizen Kane (old one, not the crappy filled in with color thing they tried releasing) Fallen (Both Denzel's and Goodman's best movie) Battle Royal (Japanese film) Shawshank Redemption Shindler's List (again another non mention? really?) Office Space (i love the spirit of doing nothing) Boondock Saints (William Dafoe anyone?) Sideways (i'm a Paul Giamatti fan, what can i say) Snatch |
