[poll] Surf/Custom Maps?
emerican, Sat Jan 13 2007, 09:57PMToasters introduced an idea that i thought we should look into. That idea is reintroducing a few custom maps onto surf. We loved custom maps the first time around.
Vote on the poll, and what i want to know is what maps you guys want. Some suggestions:

this would probably be a good thing to do on f7l5 meetings, we could play 5-10 rounds on each map and each member could vote yes or no to put the map in

This won't attract players. They won't want to DL all these maps they've never even heard of. Every custom map server is always empty.

Depends on if you get GOOD maps, and let people who know what they are doing pick them, I helped Kali pick out some map, he ran Fish Tank Kustom , he eventually made a fucking awesome server with the exception of a few levels. I wish it was still up.
It wasn't very popular, I blame that on SOME of the maps Kali had, which plain sucked but here are some good ones I may be able to find for you later:

Guys, try to remember what happened the last time we tried custom maps. We lost some regular surfers who don't like to surf, we lost some people who left right after we changed from surf to custom, we had a few server crashes becouse of new untested maps. Now we shouldn't be doign anything crazy. Take it easy and slow. Get regulars. THAN once the server average bumps up to oh say, 15-17ish, we can start adding shit, like a few sounds.

All those are amazingly fun maps (and I know blahhhh_s like the back of my hand). I think you guys are making too big of a deal over download times and only adding a few maps that aren't surf maps. I think the non surf maps should not be in the regular rotation, so they would need to be voted on to play them. That way people would be willing to sit through the whole 1 - 3 minutes it takes to dl the map, cause they voted for it. Plus 4 out of 5 times, people who join the server while a custom is on, already have the map, and they clicked to join the server cause they know what it is. All those maps mentioned above are popular maps, so chances are, people will have them.
Also IMO I find that half the fun of cs is getting a new map to play on. To me, the loading screen is like unwrapping a christmas present, cause you never know how the map is going to turn out. Is it going to be a shitty pair of socks for Aunt Jemima? or could it be the best damn present you ever got from your rich Uncle Dan? I'm always trying to expand my library of maps, and if I have to sit through a loading screen for a little while, so what, I'm getting a new map at the end of it. Don't forget, others worked hard on those maps for your entertainment (I would know this, trust me).

i agree with toaties that we should have them but not put them on the regular rotation...idk if that can be done considering its a nextmap vote system...but if we could..it might be cool
