Riddle me this

Pockyninja, Wed Nov 29 2006, 12:34AM

I was reading wu's thread And I got to thinking we should have a thread for riddles.

I love riddles so I decided to make one. I think given the kind of thread it would be a bit hard to understand if we were saying a bunch of riddles at once so some rules for this thread should be listed.

1) Only one riddle going on at a time

2) If you cant get a answer in a week then you ether have to answer your riddle or just leave it unsolved.

3) More of a suggestion but try to do riddles oyu know the answer to it makes things go smoovely.

That being said I am going first.

This man wants to get into this club that he has heard much about but is not a member of. He comes to the club room door and decids to hide outside and lissen for the password. The first man walks up to the door and knocks on it. The guard says "Twevle" The man at the door replies "Six" and is let in.

After a while another man walks up to the door and knocks on it. The gaurd says "Six" The man then responds with "Three". Now the man who wanted to get in feels confdint that he understood the code walks up and knocks on the door. The gaurd says to him "Ten" and the man responds with "Five" but was not let in.

What should he have said to get into the club?

vonschroeder, Wed Nov 29 2006, 05:19AM

Highlight below to see my answer.
He should have answered 3.
Three is the number of letters in the word "Ten"
Six is the number of letters in the word "Twelve"
Three is the number of letters in the word "Six"
That is the pattern.

(Edited to make the answer less visible for those that don't want to know)

Your abslutely right Von I am wondering did oyu figure it out or look it up or know it.
Re: Riddle me this
vonschroeder, Wed Nov 29 2006, 06:44AM

I figured it out. Took me a few minutes because I first looked for any complex mathematical patterns. Biggest clue for me was the fact the numbers were written out rather than using digits to represent them

Re: Riddle me this
Rusty, Wed Nov 29 2006, 03:57PM

hahah try this one, probably my favorite of all time The Million Doller Room

You have this room with no windows, one door. In the inside of the room you have three lightbulbs that are plugged in. Outside the room you have three light switches. You have to figure out which lightswitch goes to which bulb. You have one visit into the room onece you start switching switches. And there is no way you can see into the room otherwise. Figure it out

Re: Riddle me this
Pockyninja, Wed Nov 29 2006, 04:28PM

This answer works if the door is open. First flip each switch (one on at a time) and figure out which is shines the most light though the door. This will tell you the switch that gose with the light closest to the door. Then flip one addtional switch. When you enter the room the one closest to the door yu have verified and the other one is the other light you turned on leaving the third by prosses off olimnation to be the final switch.

If you answer a riddle and you don't want others to see the answer, use the "spoiler" code. It works like this: type "spoiler" (using brackets [] instead of quotations) "/spoiler" result: this is how you write a spoiler

A gallon worth fetus also dont make a new riddle till the old one has been confirmed as correct. Or do you know that The answer is correct.

EDIT: BECAUSE NO ONE'S ANSWERING
What's the biggest two digit number possible?

Answer below:

There are three (really infinite) answers to this question, depending on how you look at it and what you include as a digit. All of the following answers could be factorial (with a ! in front of them) which means that they are multiplied by 1 minus that number, until 1 is reached. (!9 = 9*8*7*6...etc...)

One answer is 9 to the 9th power (factorial).

Another answer is infinity to the infinity power (factorial).

Another answer could be any two digits repeated infinite amount of times (because that would mean it is a TWO DIGIT number, not in length, but in saying that the number has only two digits in it) An example of this would be: 988888888 (repeating) OR 34343434343433333344443434343434444 (never ending)

Sorry for the gay riddle. lol. NEXT!

Re: Riddle me this
nostie, Thu Nov 30 2006, 03:55AM

The answer to Rusty's Riddle (he told me, i didn't figure it out ;D)

Turn on the first switch for about 10 minutes.
Turn on the second light, and go into the room.

The first light you turned on should be hot and on.
The second light you turned on should be not as hot as the first, but on
The third light should be off and cool.

Think of words ending in -GRY. Angry and hungry are two of them. There are only three words in the English language. What is the third word? The word is something that everyone uses every day. If you have listened carefully, I have already told you what it is.

No that wouldnt make them $20 richer for 2 reason first you siad they owed each other 10 not 20 and seocundly becouse they would then all loss 20 and gained 20.

Since it has been a week the answer was they were in the band and all played togeter.

A magician was boasting one day at how long he could hold his breath under water. His record was 6 minutes. A kid that was listening said, "That's nothing, I can stay under water for 10 minutes using no types of equipment or air pockets!" The magician told the kid if he could do that, he'd give him $10,000. The kid did it and won the money. Can you figure out how?

Re: Riddle me this
Pockyninja, Mon Dec 18 2006, 05:11AM

he went into a under water tunnal or possibly the aquarium and stoood there for 10 minets. Since he was technicly underneath the water and that is not a air pocket by a clear path it would work for a answer.

krem(EDIT: where the fuck did krem come from?! i meant pocky), if there are 3 members, and they each owe each other $10, in total they owe $20... ($10 to each of the other 2 guys)

Your explanation of me being wrong is incredibly illegible and I don't underfuckstand what's going on.

Your explanation of the riddle was kind of shitty too, because they could have been playing with more than just the three of them, and could have won $60 in total from some other guy.
Re: Riddle me this
Pockyninja, Wed Dec 20 2006, 02:24AM

yes but to have exsactly 20 more then when they started would be quite difcult for all 3 of them. the odds would be very agenst them especally since it is a high stakes game which would in fact have a lot of money involved. Also they cant loss any they only gain 20.

In high stakes anything that normally would mean $100 to start at least.
Re: Riddle me this

each of them could still quite easily come out of the game even... in which case, they would all gain $20 by gaining what they had owed each other. my answer makes perfect sense, and that whole "band" thing came out of nowhere and was slightly retarded.

What are you talking about, alex? are you high?
Re: Riddle me this
Pockyninja, Wed Dec 20 2006, 04:18AM

this is the orignal riddle copy and pasted from my own post.

"Three men go to a high stakes bridge game they all play togeter but at the end of the nite every one of them comes out with $20 more then they had to start with. How is this possable?"

To gain you need to have more then you started with. What you just said was say they all had $100 to make it easy. Then you said they all owed each other $20 which lowers their cash to $80. Then they each get paid $20 from the other person. This puts thier cash back to $100. There for they didn't leave with $20 more then they came in with.

If they did what I said in which they play in a band they all could start the nite with $100 and then they get paid $20 a piece and they leave with $120 got it?

You can not gain something but breaking even that is called breaking even not gaining $20. I also never said they won $20 I said they came out $20 richer. Meaning that they have $20 more dollars in their pocket after the game then before they went into the place. Your answer makes absleuly no sence since they wouldnt have gained any money at all

Also your other riddle while it is possable that he was dead he also could have been found guilt of bing a witch or a lot of other thigns he oculd have been murdered. As I said that one was poorly made.

Canada glitch. If the US gets to the scene first they'll probably drag the reckage back over to the Canadian side. If the Canadian's get to the scene first, they'll just suck it up and write the paperwork for the whole incident. Damn, we American's are either really lazy or really smart. wink

Too lazy/tired to check if a riddle is in the process of being done... i like this one:

A boat has a ladder that has six rungs, each rung is one foot apart. The bottom rung is one foot from the water. The tide rises at 12 inches every 15 minutes. High tide peaks in one hour. When the tide is at it's highest, how many rungs are under water?
Re: Riddle me this
Pockyninja, Thu Dec 21 2006, 01:00AM

0 becouse the boat rises at the same time as the water keeping the bottom rung 1 footform the water at all times (well ok maybe a wave might decreesethe distance but it is all good)
