Oh I'm so down. I still play zombie escape sometimes on CS:S. Never gets old. So down for Office.
Also 15 years for me. Fuck man we are getting old as shit.
Also, loving Back 4 Blood. Highly recommend to everyone who enjoys coop zombie action. I play on steam. gLiTch handle was retired with FT. You can find me as theRemedy on Steam friends.

Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Sorry fetus, you are totally wrong. FT [MAY] be dieing, but that will require more research. CSS as a whole is not. At least to my standards. As omega pointed out, competition will keep people, not just players, but audiences, interested. In case you dont know, CSS, at all gaming lans and competitions takes the biggest cash prize. That is even more than Halo 2(3), DOA 4, Grand terismo(SP), Battlefield 2/2142, Quake, DoD, and war craft. I have been to these lans and my god the crowd went WILD at DOA 4 fights, even me, some1 who doesn't even really understand what is going on was cheering wildly and TOTALLY into the fight. Also mentioned is that CSS has a Niche. Which is 100% true. No ther FPS can quite do what CSS does. Halo, too fast paced. BF2, involves vehicles and "biggest gun wins". Quake holy FAST!. the list goes on and on. CSS is only dying to those who choose to accept that and are uber easily influenced by the new shiny gizmos and GFX (which atm are not even that much better looking till full support of DX10). It may be that office is repetitive. I know it could be a good idea to completely change that server to a rotation? Might get people or might lose people. Meh, I still play so its cool ![]() |

FT Classic Op![]() ![]() ![]() Posts: 1545 |
Evilpig wrote ... It may be that office is repetitive. I know it could be a good idea to completely change that server to a rotation? Might get people or might lose people. LOL! That worked out really well for FTC2! That's the only quote I'm going to respond to directly. I just thought it would be funny to point that out. ![]() As far as I see the issues raised in this thread to this point... there are three of them. The first is that interest in the FT Community, its clans, etc. is steady but as a substitute to in-game participation. This leads to the second issue that in-game participation is, in fact, waning. The third and final concern is that CS:S in general is an aging game/platform. I'm not going to complain about forum participation. Some of the content is gratuitous at best, but it doesn't hurt to shake the homo-humor tree from time to time and see what falls out! ![]() ![]() The second point of in-game participation being on the decline is interesting. You must know your FT history or your are doomed to repeat it! ![]() I can name a lot of other names, but Fetus, Goose, and myself were NOT members of FT during this time. In fact, many of the FT's that people consider as long-time members were not tagged at that time because FT was very inactive and disorganized. It wasn't until our connections (at least as far as FT Classic was concerned) were doing terrible that the idea of reviving FT was suggested. Again, I don't want to do a whole rollcall of names but I would like to think that Fetus, Goose and (surfers too! don't mean to leave you guys out!) I were instrumental in creating a framework for the current FT Community Clan as it exists today. The benefit of having the FTCC as we know it (and I do hope we consider it a benefit!) was a response to an attitude similar to what Fetus has described with his initial post: things suck, we're losing connections, not as many people show up as have in the past, etc. etc. etc. We bounced back from a rapid shift to ~300 FT Classic connections per day (much worse than we're doing now), and the FT community may not be here if people didn't step up and make suggestions about how we can improve. This leads into the third issue--we can't do anything about CS:S aging other than say that 1.6 is still extremely active and I doubt CS:S (mostly being an updated engine with nearly identical content and features) would have anything but a similar fate. People obviously lose interest in older games but there is a certain mystique that follows games which thrive for an extended period of time. Many people here have tried other games, possibly thinking hardcore CS:S players are polishing the brass on the Titanic ![]() We obviously go after specific interests with our server formats and I believe that the longer we maintain 'conceptual continuity' (yes, KMFDM fans!), as well as have the option of exploring new additions... then the better chances we have of surviving! The question is: who wants to survive? I'd rather not think that some point in the past is as good as it was ever going to be, and that we are confined to a limited amount of success, entertainment, etc. from that point on. That type of attitude is a bummer to say the least! As mentioned above, we have hit hard times before and figured out ways to get people involved, retain regulars, find new regulars, etc. The amount of exposure to/interest in our community may be declining because of CS:S showing age but you can't deny that positive opportunities exist. We haven't reached critical mass with flocks of people leaving. We just need to work harder to take advantage of opportunities to strengthen our community. Survival may mean branching out into new games (such as TF2 as others have suggested), new server formats for CS:S, or smashing some of the things we already have and rebuilding them. It seems this may be a precipitous moment for some, but I'm not leaving the community anytime soon. I may go through my usual ups and downs of in-game and forum activity but I'll still be here! Ok, before people go castrating Pig for his comment, relax. I don't think he is aware that one of the old servers was a rotation back in the day that failed. I don't think FTC should EVER be turned back to rotation as the all Office model is clutch. However, Pig has raised what a lot of other players, including myself, look for sometimes which is a change of pace. Sometimes you just want to get a different map every once in a while but you always end up back at FTC. There is a GunGame server now which has maps in rotation so you may want to consider checking that out if you want a change of pace. Other than that, AP has made a ton of great points. I think the one thing to take away from it is that AP is not giving up on the "community" from the CSS side so all of us shouldn't either. If you want something, then fight for it. So let's fight to keep CSS around. ![]() |

Jesus christ... what have I started? Ok for the record I wasn't the one who said we were becoming a forum based clan I merely reiterated it into a dead end homo erotic thread. The gay posts do grind my gears. I don't enjoy them nor see them as funny, cute, entertaining... none of that. I think it has alot to do with the maturity level though and being older I've learned to accept the... sophomoric humour that's bound to be rampant when surrounded by teenage internet dorks. (no offense) I for one have to plead guilty to not playing CS:S. I think I've logged in 3 times in the past 6 months. Why? Two reasons. Kremit will atest to our venture into WoW. We started a clan and even recruited some FTers into it. We played for maybe 5-6 months, ran into all kinds of bullshit drama that comes with leading a group of people and quit. (well I quit, not sure what Krem did) Anyway and then TF2 came out... and while that takes up the majority of my time. My interest in it is waning. As quickly as it came it's going away. Why? Well... because... it becomes predictable. What's nice about CS is that... every round, every match, every fight is different. There are no classes, everyone is on the same playing field and it's fun to just own someone and not have them able to say "fuckin pyros" or some shit. Usually they say "NS" or "FUCKIN HACKER!!!!!!!!" Anyway I think I', going to start playing CS:S some more. At least once or twice a week... it's the only game that I can say I played 7 years ago and am still willing to play today. However if they re-release DM_Murderball for TF2 you won't see me for another 6 months. At least we're all on the forums... and as long as you're active on the forums I don't think you should be kicked from the clan. We all play different games and maybe we need to adjust the rules for membership. Because if I remember correctly the only way to become FT was to be a regular in FTC and get nominated.... Well if not alot of people play in FTC anymore we may be shooting ourselves in the foot having this as the only entry point into the clan... Ooo Ooo I have an idea. How about we make a "Clan Night"? One night a week we'll all agree to go and play in one of our servers. It might be fun and good for the community. CS:S is the natural place to start since we all have that game. Whatya think? |
