Could someone explain to me what the hell a torrent is? Are there torrents of music that I can burn onto a blank cd? Because there is a cd I want that is out of print. | ||

Torrents is another form of file sharing, except that it doesn't work the same way limewire does. Cha, check me on this info, but from my understanding, there are these sites, "Torrent Sites" if you will, that host torrent trackers. When you want a file, you go onto these sites, eg. -[link]- -[link]- -[link]- -[link]- -[link]- etc., and look at the different files in each tracker. You pick a torrent that you want by its tracker, then download the tracker file to your computer (or you can just use run, it works the same, but if you accidentally delete the torrent in your client and didn't save the tracker file, you're fucked for finding it again to restart it). Then, run the tracker file in your torrent client, and it will scrape the tracker and connect you to other people using torrents, not necessarily the same client tho, and start downloading your files to the directory you specified. Then, when you've finished downloading, like most p2p's, it'll start "Seeding it", or sharing it with other people. This you have to watch because if you use a private torrent site or some of the other public ones that monitor your ratio, you can't just leech it and delete it. You have to seed it for awhile, at least until your share ratio gets to be above 1.00. So, for that CD you wanted, what I would suggest is go onto Google and download either the uTorrent client of the Azureus client (simply typing "uTorrent" or "Azureus" into the google search box should bring you to the download site). Then, go onto a popular torrent site like thepiratebay or scrapetorrent, and just search for the CD you want. When you find it, save the tracker file to somewhere on your computer, then run it in the client you just installed. Then wait. Then seed. Thats all there is to it. |
