Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Car Dilemma |

This is my ride:![]() It's a 1991 Toyota Celica. It has 205k miles on it, needs a new transmission and clutch, has new tires, new belts, new brakes. Inside and out it's still very nice (except for that dent before the bumper). It also gets WONDERFUL gas millage. I took a trip to Frenchtown NJ (which is 3 hours from my house) and my dad calculated that I got around 40 mpg. My dilemma is I drive to school everyday and its more and more apparent that my transmission is going. I only paid 800 dollars for the car around three years ago, but to replace the transmission and clutch it would be over 1k. Do you think it's worth fixing? OR should I just run it to the ground and get a new car when it dies? OR should I sell it to get a down payment on a car? But how much would someone really pay for a car with a dying transmission? So I just want to know what you guys think I should do. |

Well, personally I love Celicas. Awesome, cheaper and I guess 'sportier*' cars... My friend had one, epicly fast for the POS's we have in this town. I don't really think someone would really pay for a car with a dying transmission, and is ready to break down... so I'd say run it until it's dead and get a new car when you're ready to. Happy, KD? I really like older celicas. I don't think the newer ones run as well nor do they look as good imo. The lady i bought the car off stopped using it cause she got some money and wanted a newer car. She loved the car she sold me so she bought herself a new celica and she said it was like junk and it's never ran as good as the one I have. Also I don't think I could sell it for much cause it's a manual transmission. LOL |

Japa, sportier* If you like it keep it. Other than that, I can't really see a reason not to sell it and get at least a few hundred out of it, and buy a hybrid or something with similar gas milage. Oh, and the back right spoke looks cracked too. |

Hmm, i am thinking for you to go to the dealer you want to get a car from and then use this car to lower the price, it's genious!! When you found the car you want to buy, make sure the dealer tells you the price on the car before you mention this celica, if you play it good you could get $2,000 off the car you would buy lol ![]() |

I really wanted to stay with Toyota or Scion but they don't negotiate prices.

If you like the cars of that year, go with a 3000GT or a Civic around 94-97. 3000GT's are expensive but you can find some under 5k and Civics under 5k as well. Stick with the Japanese if you want something that lasts and lasts. Personally I recommend Subaru.

run it to the ground, you'd be surprised how long it can go. Plus, it may not even bhe the transmission, it could could some small part with the clutch. I had a bad clutch in my jetta for the longest time, then I learned it was some small $60 piece.

Well I don't have third gear, and when I start driving the transmission grinds very loudly. I've taken it to a mechanic a few times and he's sure it's the transmission. I really could careless about the year. I just want something that's going to last me for a while and gets good gas millage. I really don't like American cars. My parents bought a 2005 Chevy Cobalt and it's already falling apart. GAH I hate cars. |

That's weird they are having problems with a Chevy, usually those are good quality up past 100k miles. With the Cobalts, the only problem I've heard that people have had with them is the alternator going, but that's common in Chevys. I have a 98 Monte Carlo that had 150k miles on it and the transmission just went in it. If you want something that goes on and on without quitting, get a Cavalier. They easily get over 35 mpg, are sporty, and never quit. My buddy's had 170k miles on it, nothing new. He got rid of it because someone hit him and totaled it ![]() |
