Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

I love listening to music on my PC. The only problem is that my 2 speakers mounted on my monitor are dieing. They arent very loud even at full blast, and i love blasting my music. I want a set of at least 5 speakers and an amp. Im getting a new desk in a few months and i want surround sound for music, gaming, etc. I (still) have around 600 dollars to spend, so money isn't an issue. Any suggestions? EDIT: Does my sound card matter at all? I have a creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit card. Also, i need a keyboard. Not just any keyboard. I want one with a dial to turn down the sound. Know of any? -[link]- They may look funky, but Klipsch are by FAR the best types of speakers for computers. Followed by Creative Labs. Definately get Klipsch or Creatives, well, only if you want good sound. |

Ah yes, sound systems, one of my favorite topics. If you want to get real serious about the speakers you choose, use this site -[link]- to shop for the ones you want, but don't buy them there! They are waaaaaay too pricey, just use crutchfield for research then buy the speakers you decide you want on ebay or some store that sells them. There are four major things to look for in speakers: Frequency range (the bigger the range the better) these are all the individual notes you can hear. Humans can hear from about 16 Hz - 24,000 Hz (depending on the person). Sometimes you'll see speakers that have frequency ranges ecceding that range; this is not because you will hear it, but you will actually feel the vibrations. This is what gives you that extra oonf every time the bass hits Try to get speakers that are evenly distributed amoung the frequency range (speakers with a high frequency range, but not so much of a low will give you a cheap tinny sound that no-one likes) Watts This is what powers your speakers and allows you to crank up the volume. The more watts the better. Surface Area This makes more of a difference than the quantity of speakers you have. You can have the same effect with two nice speakers instead of five moderatly good speakers. And most speakers are equipped with dolby surround sound 5.1, so you won't have to worry about what you could be missing with those extra speakers sitting behind you. Since sound is vibrations through the air, the more air you can move, the better. This is why sub-woofers are usually so big compared to other speakers (so you can feel the vibrations in the air); and is also why good speakers are shaped like a hemisphere instead of flat (the round shape gives it the maximum surface area as well as focusses the sound) Sub-Woofer The sub woofer is what puts the BOOM in your bass. If a grenade goes of in your game, you'll feel it. Don't cheap out on the sub woofer as this is what makes or breaks your sound system. Best Buy is a good place to buy computer speakers, as they usually have good brands, and if you time it right, you can get a sweet deal when they go on sale. Also for a few extra bucks, you can get a warranty that allows you to upgrade your speakers in two years (you just have to say they are broken when you upgrade ). You should also consider a nice pair of headphones. Usually they are cheaper than speakers because it takes less power to get the same results (since they are in a closed space right next to your ears, there is less air to move). Another benefit is they cancel out ambient noise, so you can hear just your music, and not you asshole neighbor jackhammering his driveway. A good set of cans will also give you a much better sense of surround sound than speakers could ever give you... My headphones are so good at this, I can tell from what direction someone is running in css (if they are above, to the left, right, or sneeking up behind me), and aim my gun accordingly. I rock a pair of Senheiser Pro (200's?) headphones that cancel 30 Db of ambient noise (which is a lot), and even though they look like Mickey Mouse ears whan I wear them, they are sooooo comfortable. Headphones are garunteed to improve your gaming if you can learn to listen to where gunfire/incoming footsteps are coming from. I get acused of wallhacking on servers that don't know me because of this! Edited Tue Mar 13 2007, 12:09AM |

ahahaha, no more than 250. gl with that if you are looking for serious surround sound. mebbe if you spent it on headphones. i have sennheiser 580's and it almost makes me fucking cry when i listen to shit with them. you never know all the little parts of a song that you miss until you listen to it on a good system or with good headphones. the difference is fucking amazing. if you are looking for SERIOUS surround sound like you say, get ready to go 4 digits. if you want best bang for your buck surround sound computer speakers, go with logitech. these are all-arounder speakers. good for movies, music, gaming, etc. not as high quality as klipsch or other top-notch audio brands, but awesome for everyday use. this should be right in your price range: -[link]- it has a remote too, so you don't need the control on your keyboard. either spend 300 bucks or 1500 bucks. anywhere in between will either be too much or too little. i might upgrade the card to one of the newer soundblaster audigy's. these are just like the speakers in that they do all things well for the money you spend on them. I agree with jig, go give the z5500 a try. Unless your room is pretty big, that 5.1 set will shake the room with bass when turned up. That, and they're very reliable, my friend has had his set for quite a while now with no problems. | ||
